Good day, all!
Again, I am attempting to take this topic from another angle, when I remembered about a satirical Malayalam movie song written by Vayalar Rama Varma.
Here are the key lines in English translation:
Manushyan mathangale srishtichu, mathangal daivangale srishtichu
Man created religions, and religions created gods.
Manushyanum mathangalum daivangalum koodi, mannu panku vachu manassu panku vachu
Man, religions, and gods together divided the land, divided hearts.
Hinduvaayi musalmaanaayi christianiyaayi, nammale kandaalariyaathaayi
Becoming Hindu, Muslim, Christian, [acting] like strangers to each other.
India bhranthaalayamaayi, aayiram aayiram maanava hrudhayangal, aayudha purakalaayi
India became a madhouse; thousands and thousands of human hearts became fortresses of weapons.
Daivam theruvil marikkunnu, chekuthaan chirikkunnu
God dies in the streets, the devil laughs.
Sathyamevide soundaryamevide, swathanthryamevide, nammude rakthabandhangalevide, nithya snehangalevide
Where is truth, where is beauty, where is freedom, where are our blood relations, where are eternal loves?.
Aayiram yugangalil orikkal, varaarulloravathaarangal evide
Where are the incarnations that come once in a thousand ages?.
Manushyan theruvil marikkunnu, mathangal chirikkunnu
Man dies in the streets, religions laugh.
The basic issue with this song is the inability to differentiate between God and the creator, and it is quite subtle, too. All forms of differences formed within human society, whether it is political parties, religious differences, man/ woman, or elder/ younger, all when we forget we are human beings basically. Instead of aspiring higher from that position, we degrade ourselves into lower strata as described above. And as far as I can make out, the author of the song ridicules the idea that religions created the Gods. But it is true, as I feel that, all religions started off as science with available means at that time to search for the creator, and on the way they define qualities which they arbitrarily take as a Godly form. They may even picture them. But once too much is acquired, the science part vanishes, and it becomes a religion and may explode into different cast systems too. Even the materialistic science of today has reached religionhood, I feel. And I still do not know why human beings are not content as human beings and degrade themselves to lower levels. As the man/ woman conflict is concerned, they are both are either side of a coin and complement each other. Maybe the problem lies in the fact that one side of the coin, maximum can feel the other side and never see or analyse.
So I totally agree with the song, but not in a satirical way, but as a truth, knowing that the creator, if there is one, and the Gods, belong to different regimes.
To continue...
PS. When God is there Devil too will be there, but for the creator, there can not be a devil around!
# The above may be compared with light and darkness vis, when light is there, darkness can not be. But that, as per me, as mentioned in an earlier post regarding enlightenment, light doesn't displace the darkness, but dilutes the darkness. Darkness is the canvas, and light is like a painting made on it. Once the painting is done, the canvas goes to the background and will become invisible. Darkness is omnipresent as far as I can guess, and so, searching for an omnipresent God becomes like searching in the darkness. Darkness is the life force, and without it we could never survive the sun shining so far away!
Also, it may be noted that the Brihadaranya Upanishad, as per Wikipedia, is the famous "Thamasoma Jyothir gamaya", meaning let the darkness vanish and light be there. For general purpose this is very much valid and right, as darkness/ lack of knowledge ( I can not use the term ignorance as it is not to my taste) should go, and we should have enough knowledge; please note the term enough. If enlightenment is knowing everything, then I should know my future and that too with full clarity. It is going to make your life insipid, and the adventure/ fun part is gone. And if this is the scale to be used, I don't think I ever heard of any enlightened soul in human history. Mythology, it should be.
## Funniest thing, I have noticed just now, that too is related to one of my earlier posts regarding the subconscious mind, and is quite similar to this situation. When we are conscious, the subconscious stays in the background and is hardly evident, and it takes over complete control when we sleep and stay alert, maybe more than the conscious mind.
Also may be noted that unless mentioned otherwise, I will be on a relative platform, where we all have free will. Thanks.
